Satara Shares Their Top Tips for Choosing your Kitchen Stools

Kitchen stools are an undeniably important element in your kitchen. Functionality aside, they also offer the finishing touch to your kitchen’s style and can be a hero piece within the room. They also need to be comfortable, resilient, and aesthetically cohesive with the finishes within your kitchen and other furniture in an open-plan space.

We sat down with the experts at Satara to get their top tips for picking the perfect stools for your new Kinsman kitchen.

Kinsman Mt Martha Kitchen

Satara’s Skal Bar Stool in Ice White is a wonderful choice for this beautiful kitchen which had a brief of ‘Hamptons meets Luxe Coastal’, complementing the colour palette with their white and timber tones.

“Pulling up a stool to a kitchen bench happens many times across the course of a day in most homes, says Jordan Johnston, Satara’s Marketing Manager. “From a quick casual breakfast, to overseeing homework or entertaining friends and family while meals are prepared, this often-overlooked piece of furniture is more than just an accessory – they are functional works of art!”

Finding your ideal seat height.

The first step in choosing your kitchen or bar stools is to take some time to measure your space to understand the seat height that you need – a rough guide is a 20-30cm gap between your countertop and the seat.

“Generally, a kitchen island bench is 90cm high and you would need a 66cm seat height,” explains Jordan. “If your kitchen bar bench is over 100cm you would opt for a 75cm seat height.”

Perfect Kitchen Stool Height

The team at Satara recommend measuring the height of your benchtops and comparing them to the stool design you prefer to ensure a perfect fit. If you have fallen in love with a bar stool with a back, also measure its height to ensure it complements the overall look you’re wishing to achieve.

Satara’s Koko Bar Stools in White/Natural are the ideal height at the island bench which is one of the standouts in Ronnie & Georgia’s kitchen in the 2021 series of The Block.

Pick the optimum quantity for your space.

When deciding on the number of stools needed in your kitchen, an easy guide is to allow for approximately 70-80cm per person when working out how many you can fit along your island bench. This allows plenty of space for people to sit comfortably and have space to enjoy their meal.

Decide on “must-have” features.

Before you begin shopping for your stools make a list of your must-have features such as armrests, backrests, padded seating, and open weave, and keep these in mind when you are browsing.

“Consider how often you will likely use the stools and whether you would like padding on your seat for additional comfort,” suggests Jordan. “We offer a diverse variety of stools, so you will never have to compromise on your feature preferences.”

Finalise your style preference.

The style or aesthetic of your stools should complement your kitchen’s design. Whether you prefer a sleek modern look, coastal charm, or farmhouse warmth, working to a clear style preference will make selecting your ideal design much easier. With so many beautiful options available at Satara, there is a kitchen or bar stool to suit any style and space.

Choose your favourite materials.

There are a diverse variety of materials used in Satara’s collection of bar stools from wood and metal frames to fabrics, vegan leathers, and rattan. For durability and long-lasting opt for a vegan leather or a performance fabric. Timber and rattan are also good options and can create a sense of warmth.

For a harmonious space, look to the colour of your kitchen cabinetry for inspiration and ensure that your stool complements the tones of your joinery. Want to make your stools a “hero” within your room? Consider a bold choice—either in colour or fabric—while ensuring it flatters the rest of your colour palette.
