5 Stylish Laundry Design Ideas from ABI Interiors
Transforming your laundry into a space you love doesn’t have to feel like a chore! We spoke with the laundry design experts at ABI Interiors to learn how to elevate your laundry into a stylish and functional haven you’ll enjoy spending time in.
From smart storage solutions to elegant finishes, they’ve shared their top tips for creating a laundry that’s as practical as it is beautiful, highlighting what we saw in this year’s laundries on The Block.
Ready to renovate? Let’s dive in!
Design Tip 1: Zone Your Laundry Space
The layout of your laundry can significantly impact its functionality. To promote easy workflow throughout the space, create dedicated zones for different tasks, such as sorting, washing and drying, folding, ironing, and hanging.
“Ensure your washer and dryer are near each other so you can easily transfer clothes from one to the other, as well as a spacious work surface close by for folding and sorting,” says Mia Nixon, ABI Interiors Showroom Manager AU/NZ. “If you have pets, a laundry tap with pull-out functionality can make bath time much more convenient.”
Design Tip 2: Define Your Design Style
Laundries are practical spaces, but that doesn’t mean they need to be plain or boring! Typically, we recommend using materials and finishes that complement your home’s existing design scheme. For example, you could match the cabinetry and tapware finishes with those in your kitchen to create a sense of flow and cohesion—just like we saw on The Block this year.
Alternatively, you could think of your laundry as an opportunity to branch out and try a colour scheme you’ve been hesitant to use in more high-traffic areas of your home. From matte black to brushed copper, ABI Interiors offers an extensive range of finishes for your tapware, hardware, sinks and accessories.
“The Block’s Maddy and Charlotte selected our new AntiquePVD Aurum finish for their kitchen and laundry tapware,” Mia notes. “This finish seamlessly blends the timeless elegance of antique brass with the durability of advanced PVD coating, ensuring both beauty and long-lasting quality.”
Design Tip 3: Maximise Laundry Storage
Storage is the key to an efficient laundry room, particularly when designing a small laundry room. Proactively considering your laundry room storage prevents clutter from accumulating on your countertops. Include a combination of cupboards, open shelves, and drawers to keep detergents, cleaning supplies, and laundry essentials neatly organised. House 3’s Ricky and Haydn showcased this to perfection with their standout laundry!
A tall, narrow cupboard is perfect for storing your ironing board, mop, and broom. Level it up by installing a power point inside the cupboard to charge your cordless vacuum out of sight. If you’re limited on space, consider wall-hung cupboards, floating shelves and wall hooks for keeping bags, towels, and other belongings off the floor.
Design Tip 4: Install a Rail for Air-Drying
Built-in drying racks are space-savers and an energy-efficient way to dry your clothes during the winter months. It can be as simple as mounting a towel rail underneath your overhead cupboards, just like Kristian and Mimi did. ABI Interiors has a range of single, double and heated towel rails to suit every design.
Design Tip 5: Choose a Deep Sink
The right sink will make a world of difference to your laundry space, allowing you to complete cleaning chores quickly and easily.
“Our tip is to choose a sink that is deep enough to allow you to hand-wash delicates and fill up a mop bucket without any struggle,” explains Mia. “Our Seba Single Sink in Deep is my recommendation as it features an increased capacity for easily handling all your cleaning tasks while not taking up too much valuable space.”
Renovating your laundry is a great way to transform the space, adding both style and storage, while also enhancing the overall feel of your home.
