The Kinsman Kitchens that have been created on The Block this year have showcased a variety of kitchen styles. Jesse & Mel from House 5 and Tess & Luke from House 2 impressed the judges with their dark and opulent colour palettes which celebrate the popular Noir kitchen style. Below we explore how they successfully brought this style to life.
What is the Noir kitchen style?
Be bold and mix and layer different dark shades in your kitchen to evoke the Noir Style. Team luxurious matte black cabinetry, deep timber tones, black accessories and handles with marble-look benchtops for a dramatic yet timeless look.
House 5: Jesse & Mel
St Kilda locals Jesse & Mel have created a contemporary yet classic kitchen that features their signature dark, opulent and rich colour palette, complementing the rest of their home.
How House 5 created the Noir Style.
The couple’s use of various tones and textures inject interest and personality into their kitchen. Warmth has been created through the use of the Perugian Walnut Woodmatt cabinetry which features a subtle woodgrain embossing paired with Brushed Orb handles- both of which are new to the Kinsman Kitchens range. Darren loved the use of different timber looks saying, “This is how you mix timber types”.
To add to the layered look, the couple has used two stunning Caesarstone colours throughout the kitchen. Statuario Maximus, with its classic marble-look design of soft whites and greys, has been used across both the island and back benchtops. Caesarstone Cloudburst Concrete has then been used across the splashback and wrapped over the rangehood adding an unexpected and visually stunning effect. Mirror kickboards have been used throughout, evoking a floating look.
House 2: Tess & Luke
Tess and Luke’s stylish Industrial Entertainer kitchen space celebrates function and modern good looks as well as the Noir style. Stepping into their kitchen for the first time, the judges were impressed. “Very dramatic” exclaimed Shayna. “It’s huge!”
How House 2 created the Noir Style.
Prominent to their look is the L shaped run of cabinetry in Black Ultramatt doors with sleek integrated Marq handles. This cabinetry is resistant to finger-marks and scuff marks and showcases a cube of four Neff appliances and has also been used on the island bench. Above the cooktop they have used Ballina Café Oak doors which features our new Electric Bi-Fold Lift Up cabinetry. Their huge square benchtop in Caesarstone Airy Concrete is another eye-catching design feature of this space, ideal for preparing food and entertaining.
