Week 2 on The Block is finished, and on last nights’ episode the contestants revealed stunning Guest Bedrooms that celebrated the heritage of their homes. Central to the success of each room were the amazing Kinsman Wardrobes, which added style and function in spades. House 1: Tom and Sarah-Jane

Score: 23.5/30

Place:  Equal 4th

Motivated by the thought of finally being able to move back inside their house, and not having to sleep outdoors anymore, Tom and Sarah-Jane set about creating a warm and inviting First Guest Bedroom. It featured a cosy autumnal colour palette and heritage nods which included the shaker-profile of the wardrobe doors. “Tom and Sarah-Jane are demonstrating a real sophistication,” said Neale Whitaker upon entering the room.

Tom and Sarah-Jane choose a classic Hinged Wardrobe design with warm grey and timber tones to complement the rest of the bedroom. Somersby doors in Grey Matt were paired with classic Matt Brass Bar handles, opening to reveal new Oak Woodgrain interior finishes. A Folding Mirror in Anthracite makes getting ready a breeze, while Black Front Bar lights allow the contents of the wardrobe to be viewed easily while also adding to the stylish look.

Storage has been carefully considered in the layout, reflected in the mixture of hanging space, soft-close drawers, and open shelving. Shaynna Blaze loved the size of the robe and organisational opportunities that it offered but noted that one of the wardrobe doors was obstructed due to the placement of the central window. “Functionality always overrules,” she stated, implying this was an issue that would need to be resolved- and fast.

  • Exterior Doors: Somersby Grey Matt
  • Interior Finish: NEW Oak Woodgrain Matt
  • Wardrobe Handles: Matt Brass Bar 34-K-132
  • Accessories: Häfele Folding Mirror in Anthracite

House 2: Rachel and Ryan

Score: 24/30

Place:  3rd

Mindful of the judges’ feedback during Bathroom Week about the need for more Country-inspired touches in their home, Rachel and Ryan incorporated heritage features to their bedroom while remaining true to their own contemporary aesthetic.

Their expansive hinged wardrobe was central to the look, with flat exterior doors in Kinsman’s new shade Bonsai and new curved Oak Timber handles. “I love the fact that they’ve used the two tones, Shaynna smiled. It absolutely connects with the outside such as the gum trees, and the handles are just beautiful.”

The layout focuses on maximising storage, as well as usability, as seen in the inclusion of a bench seat in the centre of the robe, which allows guests to sit and get ready while enjoying the view out the window opposite. Within the robe itself, a combination of hanging space, soft-close drawers and open shelves provide plenty of organisation space for clothing and accessories.

House 3: Sharon and Ankur

Score: 27/30

Place:  1st– Winners!

Reno rookies Sharon and Ankur may have struggled this week, however, their light and bright bedroom wowed the judges and earnt them the win- with a little help from the Challenge Gnome! The couple selected a Country Luxe style for their wardrobe, teaming crisp white Somersby doors with timber-look interiors. Their decision to include leather pull handles provided a modern and stylish twist to the farmhouse look, which the judges loved.

Generous in size, the design ensures plenty of storage thanks to hanging rails, soft-close drawers, and open shelving. The use of pigeon-hole style compartments within one of the cabinets is an innovative and flexible solution for organising anything from shoes to clothing. Shaynna loved the inclusion of the folding mirror as it makes getting ready easy, especially as no other mirror featured within the room.

The design also includes a small yet effective study or makeup area featuring a desk topped in Caesarstone’s® Aterra Blanca quartz. The timber-toned open shelving above the nook connects seamlessly to the Oak Woodgrain internal finishes, allowing for decorative storage and styling.

“Ankur and Sharon are back in the game, exclaimed Neale Whitaker. This is a charming room full of beautiful traditional touches and a lovely colour palette.” Darren agreed, adding “I want to see this tone, this character, all through the house- it works!”

House 4: Dylan and Jenny

Score: 26.5/30

Place:  2nd

With a focus on scale and style, Dylan and Jenny produced a stunning guest bedroom that the judges found very hard to fault. The pair chose an earthy colour palette of warm timber for their Walk-in Wardrobe, the only walk-in produced this week. The open design features Oak Woodgrain interiors, while delivering storage in spades with a mixture of hanging space, soft-close drawers, and open shelves.

The judges were highly impressed with the robe, noting that ‘it’s all the things you could ever want, and is styled to perfection’. Shaynna went through the check list of what she would want in a wardrobe and found everything she was looking for. “You’ve got long hanging space, double drawers, more hanging, and shelves,” she noted.

While simple in design, the couple ensured that the closet is user-friendly for guests as well as the main homeowners who can use the storage cubes above the hanging space to store seasonal or rarely used items while keeping them within easy reach. The Folding Mirror in Anthracite is another thoughtful inclusion, allowing guests to get ready with ease within the bedroom.

Coming off their win during Bathroom Week, Omar and Oz continued to experiment with styles and texture in their First Guest Bedroom. The wardrobe draws the eye in the space, the boys establishing a Rustic meets Industrial look with a combination of FX Series White Cement exterior doors paired with new detailed Brushed Satin Brass handles. The pair selected elegant French Linen interior finishes which is a new colour within the Kinsman range, continuing the grey tones used throughout the room.

A combination of open shelves, soft-close drawers and hanging space create plenty of storage, with the contents illuminated with Black Front Bar lighting. The design also includes a study zone, which sits between the banks of cabinetry. Topped with Kinsman’s White Cement finish, the desk sits below a window which overlooks the beautiful country landscape. While the judges commended the boys for pushing the creative envelope, they did comment that they would like to see more traditional finishes for the wardrobes.
